Philip Clifford has a background in structural engineering and progressed into architectural design as a freelance architectural technician, became a member of the Architects & Surveyors Institute and progressively expanded to become Philip Clifford Design Architectural & Engineering Consultants in 1994.


Philip Clifford Design has been registered as a partner company with Bristol City Council, under the LABC Partner Authority Scheme since 2007, and is currently listed under the Bristol City Council and the Bath and North East Somerset Council Planning Departments Accredited Agent Schemes.


The practice was set up to provide a specialised and combined service of architectural and engineering design. With this unique combination of skills, the company is able to specialise in the design of loft conversions, house extensions, alterations, renovations, flat conversions and new build dwellings.


The practice has now designed over 3,000 loft conversions and house extensions in and around Bristol and Bath.


Our vast design expertise in other areas inclusive of house extensions, alterations, flat conversions and new build dwellings is also enhanced by our ability to couple structural engineering with architectural design enabling the practice to supply the client with a creative and buildable design.


The design team mainly consists of Philip Clifford, two architectural technicians, a chartered structural engineer, a RIBA architect, a heritage planning consultant and an interior designer.
